By Mike L.K.

Bandar Seri Begawan - A family was rendered homeless when a landslide destroyed the family house at Kg Batu Ampar of Mukim Pengkalan Batu yesterday afternoon.

The house belonging to 56-year-old Hj Matzain bin Hj Awang suffered substantial damage as a result of the landslide, which occurred at approximately 3.45pm.

Hj Matzain and his wife were not at home during the mishap as they were in the Temburong District.

According to Faeadah Nur Huda, 26, one of Hj Matzain's daughters, there were 16 people at the residence during the mishap, including three maids and eight children.

Faeadah was at the top floor of the house at the time of the incident.

The heavy downpour preceding the mishap had stopped for about 15 minutes before a tree fell on a nearby hill, resulting in a landslide and causing earth to pour right into the kitchen.

Three-year-old Nurin Izzah Nasoha suffered minor injuries during the mishap as she was hit by a wall when the landslide took place.

The police were later called to the scene. The total loss was estimated at B$20,000.
