Royal Brunei Police Force Turns 80

Bandar Seri Begawan – The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) turned 80 years old yesterday.

To commemorate its anniversary, the Police Force held a religious ceremony in Gadong last night.

The programme included a mass Maghrib and Isya prayers followed by Ghaib prayers for the tsunami Victims. A recitation of Surah Yaasin, tahlil and doa selamat were also made.

The function also coincided with a conversion ceremony for a Iban couple and their two daughters.

Sagai Anak Ambayang, 39, and his wife Jalawi Anak Asun, 31, are both police personnel.

Their daughters, aged nine and five years old, had also chosen their names.

Present was Dato Paduka Seri Haji Abdul Rahman, the Commissioner of Police, and other senior officers of RBPF.

Since its formation on the 1 January 1921, RBPF has made a number of achievements and continues to develop.

RBPF plays a major role in upholding and enforcing the laws in order to maintain the country's peace and stability.

As part of the steps to upgrade its service to the public, RBPF has implemented a number of programmes.

In 1989, the Force introduced the neighbourhood crime watch committee, both at village and mukim levels.

Apart from maintaining peace and security of the kampongs as its main goal, the crime watch committee also provides opportunity to the residents themselves to get involved in looking after their areas of residence and working side by side with the police towards common goals.

His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei is the Inspector General of the Royal Brunei Police Force.

The Force is an organisation entrusted with the responsibility to look after and uphold the laws and regulations of the nation.

Each of its personnel is well-equipped with knowledge and skills on policing and the laws of the nation.
