Medical Staffs Continue To Serve
Public On New Year
Bandar Seri
Begawan – Even though most of the government and public sector
are enjoying the New Year as a public holiday, many are still
depriving themselves of this privilege to make sure that prime public
services are readily available.
Foremost among them are the doctors
and nurses at the RIPAS hospital.
The Accident and Emergency Department
of the RIPAS hospital is always manned 24 hours a day, regardless of
holidays and festivities.
And this New Year was certainly not
an exception.
According to Siti Noorlizahayati,
Staff Nurse at the A & E Department, the department, staffed by nine
nurses and three doctors, have received and looked after 53 patients
since midnight.
Forty-two of them were classified
urgent, which in medical terms can range from coughs and colds to
other ailments. Nine were semi-urgent cases such as stomach pains.
Eight casualties have also been
brought in as a result of roads accidents. But they only suffered
minor injuries.
Yesterday morning recorded a smooth
operation in the hospital so far.
Staff Nurse Siti Noorlizahayati said
it was perhaps showing the fortunate drawback for the subdued
atmosphere last night.
Meanwhile, at the Labour Room, five
new faces brightened up the wards especially causing jubilant faces of
their parents.
Five babies were born soon after
midnight, of whom three were girls and two were boys.
