Khalwat Couple And Illegal Foreigners Held In Belait New Year Raid

BelaitA couple was caught at close proximity in a quiet place and three foreigners were issued with special passes in a New Year joint operation around the Kuala Belait and Seria yesterday.

Law enforcement agencies in the Belait district launched the operation to spot-check motorists, shops, private houses and places suspected to be used for illegal activities during the New Year’s Day celebration.

During the operation, two youths were found driving without a licence. A vehicle without road tax was also impounded.

The patrol and check-up were made in response to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei’s titah and order cancelling all forms of entertainment to celebrate New Year 2005 last night.

More than 50 officers from six agencies were involved in the operation which began at 11pm.

Operation to forbid entertainment celebration for the New Year continued until 2am.

The commitment and awareness of law enforcement agencies in the country show that they are united in combating any elements which are against the rules and laws of the nation. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
