700 Bruneians To Get Land Lots

Bandar Seri Begawan – More than 700 Brunei citizens comprising of government officers in Divisions 3, 4 and 5 and the general public will be receiving their land lots sometime this month.

The land lots would enable them to build their own dream houses.

The land lots for the lucky citizens are located at the Stage 1 and 2 designated areas of the National House Project in Kg Rimba, Brunei-Muara District.

Official statistics show that the number of applicants registered for the National Housing Scheme (NHS) from 1980 until 2002 mounted to 37,584. But only 6,763 or 18 per cent of houses and land lots under the NHS were handed over until 2001, indicating that the demand for houses was higher than the supply.

The NHS has allocated a total land area of 23,000 hectares in all four districts towards housing development.

The future housing projects for the Brunei-Muara District include a 465hectare site in Kg Tanah Jambu and a 450hectare site in Kg Meragang. There will be a total of 2,200 housing lots in Kg Tanah Jambu and 1,800 housing lots in Kg Meragang, capable of accommodating 14,300 and 11,700 occupants respectively. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
