Brunei Residents Call For Tsunami
Warning System
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan – Citizens and residents were hoping for an early
warning system for tsunamis to be in place in the near future to
prevent loss of life in cases of tidal waves triggered by earthquakes
that may hit this country.
While praying that such calamities
like the recent tsunami disaster would never occur in this country,
they felt it was better to be on guard since it is not impossible that
a tsunami might happen here.
They felt a warning system similar to
the one operating in the Pacific region is much needed here since
Brunei has a high concentration of people staying near the coasts.
"All the way from Muara to Belait,
people live near the coasts. As such, these lives are in danger should
a tidal wave triggered by earthquakes from prone areas in the region
occur.
"Therefore an early warning system is
vital to be in place," they said adding that such costs of putting a
warning system can be shared by neighbouring countries too. --
