Imams Warn Muslims In Brunei
Against Fake Prophets
By M K Anwar
Bandar Seri
Begawan – Imams yesterday warned Bruneians to beware of those
who claimed to be prophets.
In a stern warning issued during the
Friday sermon, the Imams said there have been instances of ordinary
people who pretend to be religious leaders.
For example, a man from a
neighbouring country had even recently claimed to be a prophet.
In history there have been many
claiming to be such prophets, the Imams said.
The most recent one was a Malay man
from a neighbouring country who had claimed that the al-Quran was
given to him and that Allah the Almighty told him through an angel
that he was a prophet.
These claims are ridiculous, the
Imams said.
"Since the time Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh)
was alive up to now, there have been several individuals who had
claimed to be prophets with alleged proof and arguments to support
their claims which were found out to be not true."
According to the Imams, Prophet
Mohammad (Pbuh) had once said that those claiming to be prophets after
him are liars.
As said in the Brunei Constitution,
the official religion of Brunei Darussalam was Islam in accordance
with Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah.
Following the belief of Ahli Sunnah
Wal Jamaah, it has been proven that it is able to unite the people and,
at the same time, result in peace and harmony in the country.
Unfortunately, recently there have
been efforts to undermine religious teachings where there have been
certain individuals or groups who have tried to influence the people
of Brunei by bringing in new beliefs that are against the teachings of Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah.
In this situation, said Imams, we
must be careful and be on guard against these irresponsible elements.
Not to easily accept another belief or teachings without checking out
first and not to be easily influenced with miracles or strange things
that are shown.
If there is one group or individual who claims to be a
`wali', prophet or anything, it is important to report the matter to
the authorities, advised Imams.
This is not accepted by a logical
mind. It has been said that there is no prophet after Prophet Mohammad
(Pbuh) and that the al-Quran was given only to him.
The claims made by these fake
prophets are totally against the truth and against the teachings of
Islam.
Believing the existence of another
prophet after Prophet Mohammad is wrong, stressed the Imans.
