Sultan Highlights Steadfast Patriotism And National Security

Bandar Seri Begawan – His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, the Sultan of Brunei, has emphasised in a titah the importance of national security and the strengthening of the spirit of patriotism.

The Sultan was speaking to the nation in conjunction with his annual 2005 New Year titah yesterday.

He expressed his deepest sympathies and condolences to both our neighbouring and friendly countries that have been affected by the tsunami disaster.

His Majesty's titah clearly demonstrated that Brunei also feels the suffering and pain that have befallen them.

Speaking about the country's development, His Majesty underscored the importance of all the sectors to pool together towards this end and purpose.

In His Majesty's view, the process of national development would not be complete without the involvement of the private sector.

In this relation, His Majesty reminded that all the negative elements such as abuses of power and corruption must be eradicated from the development process.

For life within the community and in a nation as well as in neighbourly living, it is better to foster the spirit of goodwill.

on international relations by saying the needs for His Majesty to make official visit overseas.

The spirit of patriotism that is often expressed is indeed very pleasant to hear. But it would be even more pleasant and more meaningful if it is steadfastly held.

Moreover, such a spirit would be more firm and beneficial if it is woven, strengthened and exalted with maturity.

This matter was also highlighted by His Majesty as the country celebrates the New Year of 2005.

The New year of 2005 will surely bring many challenges, be they the expected ones or otherwise.

As an example, no one ever expected the earthquake in Northern Sumatra that sparked the Tsunamis which claimed so many lives.

But if Brunei people hold on to His Majesty's titah, all will surely enter the New Year with full confidence like a sail ship in the form of Brunei Darussalam. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
