Encounter with a conman
By Azlan Othman
A reader contacted the Bulletin and
claimed that he was approached at 10.30am on Thursday by a man in his
40's or 50's, with a sob story and asking for help.
"When I was about to close my car
door at the passenger seat, he came and began asking for help. He said
he and his children wanted to go home in Lamunin, Tutong but his car
broke down. My boyfriend gave $10. We knew he was lying but he could
be dangerous", she claimed
"He asked for $15 but my boyfriend
gave $3 and said that's all we have. He wanted our address to pay back
but we refused. He left and thanked us", she added.
On Friday, the Bulletin highlighted a
similar story which happened in Kiulap.
As a woman parked her car, the conman
opened her car door and started to share his 'so-called' predicament.
She told him she could not help him and he walked away.
The public is urged to be aware of
such con artists so as not to fall prey to their sob stories.
