Seven immigration offenders who
thought the Temburong District was out of touch from the Immigration
Enforcement Department got it totally wrong when they were nabbed in
several raids Thursday night.
The raids were part of an operation
codenamed "Ops Buru 5" carried out by a team of ten Immigration
Enforcement personnel which was led by Chief Immigration Officer Sani
bin Hj Dris.
Three houses in Kg Parit Baru and Kg
Batang Tuau in Temburong were targetted during the raids. At the first
location targetted by the Immigration personnel, an Indian national,
Addaikkalam Kathiresam was found to have had overstayed in the country
after his permit had expired. He was originally working in BSB.
In a dilapidated house located in Kg
Batang Tuau, three Thai men and a Bangladeshi were caught. All four
were also found with expired travel permits.
The Bangladeshi, Md Ali Horayra
Sakader was found to have run away from his employer.
He was initially working at a textile
factory in Muara but decided to run and hide in Temburong.
Two other Bangladeshi nationals, Sazu
Miah and Md Nazmul Ahasem Chowdhuray were also nabbed in another house
in Kg Batang Tuau for overstaying.
All the men caught during the raid
were charged under Chapter 15 (1) of the Immigrations Act.
They were reportedly held for two
nights at the Bangar Police Station before being transported to BSB to
face the court today.
