Police Crack Theft Gangs As Big
Haul Of Stolen Items Shown
Bandar Seri
Begawan – Goods ranging from tiny buttons and as large as major
electrical appliances were among stolen items recovered by the Royal
Brunei Police Force.
They also detained 18 people in
connection with a spate of thefts in the Brunei-Muara District.
The items shown were the goods stolen
by the alleged thieves from October to December last year.
Sources said during the three-month
period, several houses were broken into.
A number of cars were also the
targets of the thieves.
But the main attraction of these
alleged criminals was a department store in the capital.
The police said the stolen items
worth about $40,000.
There were various kinds of stolen
items, ranging from the high valued to the cheaper ones.
It seems even tiny items did not
escape the itchy hands of the alleged thieves, reports Radio
Television Brunei.
Market price of these buttons was
less then a dollar.
Also recovered were household goods
including furniture and clothing.
Packages of rice and sugar too were
stolen.
It is understood that the stolen
commodities were to be sold below market price.
Their target market was the low paid
foreign workers.
The thieves’ major haul was a super
market in the capital. Police believe five local men were responsible.
Meanwhile in another break-in case,
electrical goods were among stolen items.
Eleven local men and two foreigners
aged between fifteen and thirty-five were believed to have involved in
these crimes.
The market price of these electrical
appliances including a projector and a laptop were estimated at
thousands of dollars.
The Royal Brunei Police Force also
urged the cooperation of the public in the fight against these crimes
by lodging reports to the nearest police station. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
