‘Robot' Gets Jail, Whipping For
Mischief

Begawan - A water taxi driver who threw a brick at an ATM
machine of the Islamic Bank of Brunei in order to release his stress
and who attempted to steal cash from an ATM machine of HSBC was
sentenced to 8 months imprisonment and received 2 strokes yesterday.
Ramlan
Haji Ahmad, 30, also known as `Robot', pleaded guilty to committing
mischief by causing damage amounting to $2,906 to the Islamic Bank of
Brunei (IBB) ATM machine on December 27 last year between 6 am and
6.45 am.
The prosecuting officer, Shamshuddin
Hj Kamaluddin, told the court that on December 27 last year Ramlan
went out to work at about 6 am and stopped at `Tambing' near a fish
market.
He then walked to the IBB ATM located
at the IBB headquarters at Jalan Pemancha where he found a brick
nearby and threw it at one of the ATM machines, intending to cause
damage to it.
Three days after, the defendant went
to the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) at Shakirin
Complex in Kiulap and attempted to withdraw money from the ATM machine
by putting an engine gasket into it.
However, the prosecutor said that his
attempt failed as the police who were patrolling the area at that time
