Infocomtech Expo to equip nation
with latest standards

The International Infocommunications
Technology Expo and Seminar, which fell victim to the global outbreak
of SARS last year, will now take place at the International Convention
Centre, Berakas from May 17 to 19. Dubbed the largest communications,
IT, and broadcasting event in Brunei Darussalam, the 3-in-1 event is
set to equip the nation with the latest standards in the three
industries.
Event Manager Transpower Group stated
that the Infocomtech Expo is a joint government and private sector
undertaking aimed at bringing together as many as 400 exhibitors and
10,000 attendees from the telecommunications, Information Technology
(IT) and broadcasting industries in Asia Pacific.
Group chairman Hj Ismail bin Hj Damit
said the event is set to be participated by 32 nations and three
sectors. Distinguished speakers from Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand
and Singapore as well as from other Asia Pacific countries have been
lined up to deliver working papers at the seminar.
Topics that will be covered include
e-government, digital broadcasting, knowledge management by
professionals, future developing networks and the sharing of
information across various mediums.
Jointly hosted by the Ministry of
Communication and Authority for Info-Communication Technology Industry
(AiTi), the event is sponsored by TelBru as a major partner, Radio
Television Brunei (RTB) as the broadcast partner, KPF Comserve Sdn Bhd
as the broadband sponsor, Royal Brunei Airlines as the expo carrier,
Borneo Bulletin as the media sponsor, and Brunei Shell as the
associate sponsor.
The event is endorsed by Asia Pacific
Telecommunication and supported by Universiti Brunei Darussalam and
Brunei National Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Hj Ismail said the
event will be classified into five functions namely exposition,
seminar, business matching, golf and tours.
At the exposition, products that have
been lined up to be showcased include: application service providers;
books and reference guide; communication technology; data
storage and management; design and
desktop publishing; digital media and broadcasting; education and
training; e-commerce and e-business; e-government; industrial
applications; internet technology; mobile computing and devices;
network infrastructure; 3G, WAR and GPRS; office systems and
equipment; operating systems and software; security systems; web
hosting and design services; workstations and peripherals;
venture-capital firms and ICT-related services.

Ismail added that the full calendar of events comprises the Asia
Pacific Telecommunication Policy and Regulatory Forum from May 14 -
17, the International Infoc-omtech Expo and Seminar from May 17 - 19
and APT Technical Workshop on ENUM and IDN from May 19 - 20.
