Writers sign MOU to publish novels

Five local writers yesterday signed a
Memorandum of Understanding with the Language and Literature Bureau in
publishing their novels.
Representing the Language and
Literature Bureau, Awang Haji Abu Bakar bin Haji Zainal, the Acting
Director signed the MOU with Dr Ampuan Haji Brahim Ampuan Haji Tengah,
Awang Haji Mahmud bin Pengarah Digadong Haji Abu Bakar, Awang Rosli
bin Abidin, Awang Haji Hashim Haji Mohd Noor and Awang Puasa bin Kamis.
The MOU signing was held at the
Language and Literature Bureau at the Pateh Berbai room.
Dr Ampuan Haji Brahim has produced a
novel, "Jalan Bengkok Ke Rumah". Known by pen name Rahimi A. B, he has
produced an anthology with 17 stories that depict the lifestyle of a
community, family, household and culture.
Awang
Haji Mahmud, pen name H. B. Mahmud, wrote the novel "Di Hujung Senja."
In the beginning, it was titled "Genggam Bara Api," and came in third
place during the Brunei 1984 Independence Novel writing competition
organised by the Bureau. The novel's theme is history, ambition and
the determination of the young generation to help their elderly.
Awang
Rosli bin Abidin, known to readers as Rosli Abidin Yahya, wrote his
very first novel to be published by the Bureau. His novel depicts the
different lifestyles of rural people full of the older generation
culture that is beginning to fade away. Also in his book are 10 short
stories.
