Personnel from Berakas police station and the Royal Brunei Customs and Excise Department on Wednesday night conducted spot checks in Kg. Sungai Akar, Serusop and Manggis.

Out of 14 foreign workers brought to the police station, five were detained - three men and two women.

The men were detained on suspicion of illegally bringing in six bottles of white wine and possessing cigarettes without Brunei's health warning.

The two women were detained for allegedly violating immigration laws.

The suspects were handed over to the Immigration Departments for further investigation.

The raids were led by DSP Yakub, District Crime Officer of the Berakas Police Station.
