The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Police Headquarters in Gadong has recovered a total of $40,000 worth of items stolen between October and December last year. 18 people were arrested during the 3-month period.

Yesterday morning, some of the stolen items worth about $19,000 were displayed at the CID office in Gadong. Among the items were clothing, watches, car stereos, a laptop computer and some electrical items.

13 people - 11 locals and 2 foreigners - were arrested in connection with several house, shops and car break-ins. These cases included car thefts that have occurred in Brunei-Muara District.

One case involved a security guard who masterminded the theft of several items by his gang members from the department store he was actually guarding.

Four foreigners were arrested for immigration offences, while another foreigner was detained for customs offences.

Through the arrests, the Gadong CID has managed to solve 24 criminal cases that were reported to the police in Brunei-Muara District. The arrested suspects range in age from 15 to 35. Some of the teenagers arrested were still studying.

The police in a press statement said they welcomed the cooperation of the public in giving information on criminal activities.
