Watch On Illegal Immigrants To Continue

Kuala Belait – Eight foreigners are being detained for investigation for violating the Immigration Laws, Radio Television Brunei reports.

They were being held following a surprise raid on squatter areas in the Belait and Tutong districts on Tuesday night.

The operation codenamed "Guru- Empat" was conducted in areas at Kampong Sungai Paku Telisai in the Tutong district, Jalan Kecil Sungai Bakong Selatan and Kampong Sungai Tali in Lumut.

Officers of the Kuala Belait Immigration Department raided four houses foreign workers rented.

Forty foreigners of Indian, Indonesian, Bangladeshi and Thai origin living there were scrutinised by the officers.

Eight of the foreign workers were brought in for further investigation as the result of the operation that began at 11pm and ended four hours later.

Such operations will continue, to be carried out from time to time by the relevant authority in order to maintain the country's security and integrity, the report said.  -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
