Important Role Of Tourists
Boosting Local Economy Stressed
Bandar Seri
Begawan – Tourists coming to Brunei and staying in hotels and
using tourism related services contribute directly to the economy of
the country and thus help maintain and increase job opportunities and
economic activities.
These tourists are mainly business
travellers, delegates to conferences and meetings as well as leisure
travellers.
The Director of Brunei Tourism,
Sheikh Jamaluddin of the Industrial Promotion and Tourism Section said
that it was the number of such tourists, and how, long they stay on
average in the country, that is important for the development of the
tourism industry in Brunei.
He said Brunei tourism estimates,
based on information gathered from hotels, airlines and tour
operators, that the number of such tourists was about 100,000 for the
year 2003, staying an average of three nights or so in Brunei.
Brunei Tourism he said will work
closely with the hotels and tour operating industry to monitor in a
more systematic way the number of guests they handle, their country of
origin, purpose and duration of stay.
These figures will be used as a basis
for future projections, objectives and goals and to calculate future
expected revenue and hotel occupancy rates. To rapidly increase
occupancy rates, both tourists numbers and average length of stay need
to grow strongly each year.
With this regard a photo, CDs
containing high-resolution pictures, representing some of Brunei's
most scenic views of its natural, cultural, architectural and Royal
heritage assets have been introduced.
The images will be used by Brunei
Tourism, RBA and local hotels and tour operators for inclusion in
their own brochures, advertisements and websites.
The now familiar Brunei logo,
unchanged since the days of Visit Brunei Year, in 2001, has been
refreshed by incorporating pictures from the recent photo shoot in its
design, while the current tagline "Discover A Different Side of Asia"
has been changed to "The Green Heart of Borneo" to better reflect that
nature and eco-tourism are the kingdom's strong selling points.
The other tagline “A Kingdom of
Unexpected Treasures” has been retained, as that is exactly what
Brunei is, said the Brunei tourism chief. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
