Malaysian man pays the price for defying ban

A 51-year-old Malaysian who was barred from entering this country, but came back here to meet his children, was fined $2,000 by the Magistrate's Court yesterday.

The defendant, Taha bin Chuchu, who was arrested by the Immigration Officers from the Enforcement Division at a house in Kampong Sungai Bunga three days ago paid the fined. He was previously sentenced to two years imprisonment for an offence under the Islamic Council Act, said the Immigration Prosecutor, Moharefandi Hj Md Tahir.

Soon after he served his sentence, he was officially removed from this country on September 28, 1999 where his name was included under List 'A' from the Immigration Department, he said.
