Surfers vent displeasure over
Internet ‘pop-ups'
By Maya Salleh
Concerned Internet users have
lamented to the Bulletin that they have been experiencing "annoyances"
while they tried to surf online in the form of "pop-up" windows. What
irked these users is that the "pop-up" windows seemed to originate
from a website called www.ihatepops.com.
The "pop-up" windows have appeared up
to 37 windows at a time and users have found difficulty in trying to
close the windows while concentrating on their intended website. The
users initially thought that the high incidence of such windows might
have been triggered by some sort of computer virus. Moreover, they
experienced slow Internet connection speed due to the "pop-up"
windows. At times their computers even "froze", forcing users to
re-boot their computers in order to exit the Internet.
However when the BruNet depar-tment
was contacted they assured that the high incidence of "pop-up" windows
was not caused by any virus, but by users visiting sites that are
affiliated with the mentioned site.
