Bruneian Identity Highlighted At Seminar

Bandar Seri Begawan – 'Calak Brunei' refers to the Bruneian Identity, the Bruneian people as well as the Bruneian nation.

Bruneian identity has its own characteristics and values, which make it unique. This was highlighted by the Head of the History Centre, Pehin Dato Dr Haji Awang Mohammad Jamil Al-Sufri in a working paper he delivered on Saturday at the National Seminar on Bruneian Identity.

The Yang Dimuliakan Pehin in his working paper entitled "Calak Brunei: Dari Perspektif Sejarah," or "The Bruneian Identity: From the Historical Perspective," emphasised that the values and characteristics of the Bruneian identity has been practised by Bruneians as a way of life since a long time.

In line with the status of Brunei as an Islamic country, the values and characteristics of the Bruneian identity befits the Islamic teachings and laws and is based on the philosophy of Malay Islamic Monarchy, he said.

The four-day seminar was held at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD). -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
