The Young Engineers Association under
PUJA, organised a first of its kind, 'Young Engineers Race 2004'
yesterday.
The race, which was opened to members
of the public proved to be well received with a total participation of
11 teams (two people in each team).
The race required the use of
participants' own vehicles and tested the strengths of minds of
participants as well as their physical endurance and stamina as they
covered three districts - Brunei/Muara, Tutong and Belait - for a
duration of eight hours.
The participants were required to
rush to the designated checkpoints to get the clues and proceed to the
next.
There were a total of 11 checkpoints
scattered around the three districts.
In addition, participants were
required to perform a number of physical tasks such as running,
bowling, flying fox, monkey pass, pizza-eating and so on.
The race started at ITB at 8 am and
ended at the Jerudong Park Playground at 4 pm.
The participants then proceeded to
the Jerudong Park Country Club for the prize presentation ceremony.
On hand to present prizes to the
winners was Hj. Mohd Zin bin Hj. Mohd Salleh, Director of Housing
Development Department, Ministry of Development, who was also the
guest of honour as well as the Counsel Member of the Engineering
Division of PUJA.
The champion of the Young Engineers
Race 2004 was the team 'Underground Warrior', comprising of Hj. Justin
Hj. Yacob and Hayatdee Idris, who won a cash prize of $1,500.
The second place winner was the team

Kota Kinabalu and a cash prize of $200 and the third place went to the
'Underground Champion' team, comprised of Michael Lee and Fazillah
Idris, who won a one night stay at the Empire Hotel plus a round of

The Young Engineers was officially
formed last year and it is a subsidiary body formed under PUJA.
It was formed due to the rise in
number of professional engineers and this association serves to unite
local engineers who are aged 35 and below.
The prerequisites to join the Young
Engineers society are a certificate of education recognised by PUJA.
The Young Engineers Race is
tentatively planned as an annual event.
