Beef Smuggler In The Soup

Begawan - A Malaysian man who wanted to help his friend smuggle
15 cart cartons of boneless beef for a wedding party in Brunei ended
up paying a $1,500 fine.
The Magistrate's Court yesterday also
ordered that the car used to bring in the untaxed meat be forfeited to
the state.

Chien Siong. 37, pleaded guilty to conveying 15 cartons of 18
kilogrammes of Allana frozen boneless beef by using a car bearing
registration number BN 5576 three days ago.
Thirteen cartons of the beef were
found in the rear compartment and another two cartons were discovered
in the rear passenger seat of the car, the Royal Customs and Excise
Department prosecutor told the court.
The defendant was stopped at a police
roadblock near the Kuala Lurah immigration control post.
The prosecutor said that the beef.
estimated to be worth $578.00, was brought in by the defendant from
Limbang and was supposed to be delivered to a marn named `Jeman' in
Kampong Bengkurong for a wedding party.
