Begum Khaleda Here Today

Begawan - Bangladeshi Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia is
expected to arrive in Brunei today (Sunday) for a two day official
visit.
She will be the first Bangladeshi
Head of Government to visit the Sultanate.
A royal reception is scheduled with
His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei at Istana Nurul Iman tonight. Begum
Khaleda arrives here after a visit to Indonesia.
The visit to Brunei is aimed at
improving bilateral relations as well as to discuss matters pertaining
to manpower exports, energy and education.
On the second day of the official
visit, Prime Minister Khaleda Zia is scheduled to visit Kampong Ayer
on a river cruise.
A special reception will also be
hosted at the Bangladeshi High Commissioner for Begum Khaleda to meet
the Bangladeshi community in Brunei.
Accompanying Prime Minister Khaleda
Zia will be the Bangladeshi Foreign Minister M. Morshed Khan, the
State Minister for Overseas Employment Quamrul Islam and other senior
government officials.
In 1991, she became the country's
first woman Prime Minister through a general election held in February
1991.
She became Prime Minister for the
second consecutive term after the BNP had a landslide victory in 15
February 1996 general election.
Prime Minister Khaleda Zia is
expected to leave Brunei tomorrow (Monday).
