Fire Fighters Revealed

Begawan – Apart from controlling and extinguishing fires, the
Fire Services department also search and rescue accident and drowning
victims and other related emergency cases that involved life and
death.
From the total of 3,228 calls
received last year, 23 deaths, and 259 casualties were registered by
the Fire Services Department.
Search and rescue operations for the
drowned victims showed the highest rate with six deaths recorded from
six calls received in 2003 including one injured victim.
However, emergency calls received in
the rescue operation including rescuing victims involved in car
accidents recorded 161 calls with 12 deaths.
Others included 248 injured cases
last year and emergency calls also registered three deaths.
Buildings on fire caused one death
and one casualty.
While houses on fire resulted in one
death with four victims injured.
The department also recorded one
injury from gas leakage's case.
Overall, the Fire Services Department
last year had to spend more than 340 hours to cope with all emergency
