Hectic day at Sungai Tujoh
By Liza Mohd
The Royal Customs and Excise at the
Sungai Tujoh Immigration Control Post recorded a total of 758 vehicles
heading to Miri, Sarawak on Thursday morning as Brunei observed a
public holiday to celebrate Chinese New Year (CNY).
A Customs official noted that, as
expected, there was a long queue of cars from as early as 6 am when
the immigration control post opened until it closed at 10pm.
He added that most of the vehicles
heading to the border were Brunei-registered vehicles, including heavy
vehicles and trucks.
Many people had used the public
holiday to cross the border to visit families and friends or just took
a quick break.
In spite of the high number of cars
passing through Sg Tujoh, the new bridge at Baram which opened last
year helped to ease the flow of the cross-border traffic.
With the new bridge, motorists didn't
have to wait for the Baram ferry to cross the river.
