New Tutong mosque holds first
Friday prayers

Serudin, Minister of Religious Affairs, attended the first Jumaat
Prayer at the new Kampong Bukit Beruang Mosque, Tutong.
Deputy Permanent Secretary at the
Ministry of Religious Affairs, Awang Haji Mohd Yusof Haji Ismail,
Deputy Director of Mosque Affairs and the Imam of the mosque, Awang
Mohd Rosmadini, accompanied him.
Deputy Director of Mosque Affairs,
Awang Haji Ismail Haji Abdul Manaf, said the beauty of the mosque must
be maintained by everyone, not only the mosque officials.
More mosques will be constructed at
Kampong Sengkarai, Kampong Penanjong and Kampong Kiudang and more
sites have been reserved for mosque construction, he added. The
minister visited some of the facilities at the mosque such as VIP
room, office, 'Wudu' area, library after the prayers.
The mosque can accommodate up to
1,000 worshippers and it was built for the convenience of Muslims in
the area.
The key presentation ceremony was
held on 21st January 2004. A representative from the Public Works
Department, Deputy Senior Architect Dayang Hajah Maihani Haji Abd
Hamid handed over the key to the Deputy Assistant Director of Mosque
Affairs, Awang Haji Rahim Haji Tahir, a representative from the
Ministry of Religious Affairs, who then handed it over to the Imam of
Bukit Beruang Mosque.
The construction of the mosque on a
3.20-hectare site at a cost of $1,982,849.01 took 15 months from 28th
May 2002 to 27th August 2003.
