Four Pillars Of Patriotism
By Malai Hassan Othman
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Steering Committee responsible for organising the
ongoing `Brunei Business SympForium' as a prelude to the upcoming
National Day celebration has reaffirmed their commitment to raising
the spirit of patriotism through the four pillars of Trust,
Equitability, Partnership and Security.
The Steering Committee coordinated by
the Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry underscored this commitment
in their recent meeting in the capital.
At the meeting they further agreed
that "partnership" is their strategic approach upon which trust can be
built up. They have also agreed to address the issue of "equitability"
as the foundation for "security" in the context of social harmony,
while security in the physical sense is a collective community
responsibility.
"Our approach towards "patriotism and
business" is that we have to do everything in partnership. The private
sector has to build a meaningful partnership with the government or
the public sector.
"We believe that only through
meaningful partnership can we have trust in each other.
The ideals in "adil" which is
"equitability" can help build a stable and harmonious social
environment, which is also good for business," said a member of the
committee.
Also discussed in the meeting were
the preparations and programmes for the 2nd Workshop/Quality Circles
and Halaqah Fikir to be held on January 28.
The working group agreed to use the
items and issues as listed in the World Economic Forum Competitiveness
reports as the grouping and clustering of issues. These are listed in
itemised headings such as Openness, Finance, Technology, Management,
Government, Labour, Institutions and Infrastructure.
The first workshops saw the
discussion of problems and issues faced.
It was also agreed that there would
be joint declarations from the many working groups.
The declaration would be introduced
with the preamble that the SympForium and all its constituents
subscribe to the basic principles of building a partnership with all
players and stakeholders and that a partnership between Government and
the Private Sector is the only formula for meaningful economic
development. --
