Crime Prevention Duty Of Everyone

Begawan – Officials have welcomed the involvement of members of
the Village Neighbourhood Watch in offering their concerted efforts in
handling crime.
It is also recommended that the
members encourage the spirit of awareness that crime prevention is the
responsibility of all.
The Assistant Director of Criminal
Investigation One, Senior Superintendent Abdul Rahim bin Haji Mohamad
Noor was making the call in his capacity as chairman of the Village
Neighbourhood Body nationwide on Wednesday night.
He was speaking at a gathering of
senior officers of the Royal Brunei Police Force and the committee
members of the village neighbourhood watch of Tanah Kurnia Rakyat Jati
Kampong Mata-Mata Gadong Scheme.
He added that in the context of the
village neighbourhood watch the members concernd are required to be
aware of activities that will negate social development and prevent
actions violating the country’s laws.
Members concerned are urged to report
any untoward activities to the law enforcement department for action.
Besides channelling information to
the agency concerned, he suggested that members of the village
neighbourhood watch to pool their concerted efforts in combating
crime. Thay should also involve in night patrols conducted by various
law enforcement agencies.
At this gathering the village
dwellers took the opportunity to focus their problems as to the
functions and responsibilities of the village neighbourhood watch.
Involved in the gathering were six
law enforcement agencies namely the Narcotics Control Bureau, the
Royal Brunei Customs and Excise, Syariah Department, the Land
Transport, the Immigration Department and the Royal Brunei Police.
Established more than 15 years ago,
the village Neighbourhood watch is an institution that has grown in
importance in its responsibility coordinating with other law
enforcement agencies in the prevention of crimes and social ills.
