Brunei Chinese Celebrate Chinese
New Year

Begawan – Chinese community in Brunei today joined their
counterparts the world over celebrating Chinese New Year.
As with Hari Raya Aidilfitri the
festivity is celebrated symbolising prosperous life and success in
business undertakings, good will to all men and in welcoming friends
and relatives to homes.

Anak Haji Idris were among the many well-wishers who visited Chinese
homes for the festivity yesterday.
Such an open house offers an
opportunity to further forge relations between the nation's multi
races.
A variety of cakes and food were
served suitable for Muslims.
As with other festivities they too
hold open houses offering an array of food.
New Year for the Chinese began on
Wednesday night with a get-together and a reunion dinner among
families.
Festivities such as these augers well
for all of the country's many races to interact by calling on their
Chinese friends and acquaintances in further solidifying
relationships.
The Special Advisor to the Sultan at
the Prime Minister's Office and the Minister of
Home Affairs, Pehin Dato Awang Haji
Isa and other senior government officials, visited Awang Ang Swee
Chuan in Kampong Subok to wish him and his family a Happy New Year.
An array of Chinese traditional food,
an assortment of Malay kuih and other delicacies were also served.
This year is the Year of the Monkey
according to Chinese astrology.
