The Chinese community in the country
yesterday celebrated the Lunar New Year ushering in the Year of the
Monkey by holding open houses to welcome people of all races and join
the celebration.
Cabinet ministers attended the open
houses.
The house of Mr. Goh King Chin,
Managing Director of GHK Motor Sdn Bhd welcomed the Special Adviser to
His Majesty at the Prime Minister's Office cum the Minister of Home
Affairs, Pehin Dato Laila Utama Hj Awg Isa and wife, the Minister of
Communications, Pehin Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Zakaria and wife, as well
as other senior government officers and foreign diplomats in the
country.
The open house acts as a tool to
strengthen and foster closer relationship among the many races in the
country and an opportunity to meet old friends.
The celebration was highlighted with
the lion dance troupes from the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and
Industry as well as the Chung Hwa Middle School in the capital.
Meanwhile, Mr. Lim Beng Thai welcomed
the visit of friends and other VIP guests, including HRH Princess Amal
Umi Kalthum Al-Islam and her husband.
The Managing Director of Cityneon,
Jackson Ting, welcomed the visit by several senior government officers
including the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pehin Dato Dr.
Haji Awg. Hussain, in his house in Kampung Sungai Tampoi in Sengkurong.
Also hosting an open house in Kg
Jangsak is the President of the Overseas Chinese Taipei who welcomed
the visit by several government officers, including the Permanent
Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Dato Paduka Haji Awg. Dani
and wife, as well as the representative of the Taipei Economic and
Cultural Office in Brunei, Dr. James CH Chen and his wife.
