Sharp Rise In Brunei-China Trade
By Maya Salleh
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Trade between China and Brunei has marked an
impressive increase to US$343 million between January and November
2003, the Economic and Commercial Office of the China Embassy said in
a statement yesterday.
The increase constituted a 41.5 per
cent rise in trade compared to January to November figure in 2002.
The value of products exported from
Brunei to China reached $312 million while its import totaled $31
million.
Trade relations between China and
Brunei was further enhanced last year with the participation of Dato
Dr Awang Haji Ahmad, Minister of Development, at the 11th Kunming
Commodities Fair and the CEO of Brunei Economic Development Board at
the 7th China International Fair for Trade and Investment.
It is evident that there exists great
potential to expand and strengthen relations between Brunei and China
as well as with other Southeast Asian countries. The strong relations
in all fields will not only benefit the economic development of Brunei
and China but will also contribute to world peace and stability.
Trade fairs will be actively
organised by both countries as they are believed to help in the
promotion of and interaction between the two countries based on the
principles of mutual trust and benefit, the statement added.
