BSP careers for Bruneians


Career teachers attending the briefing session on BSP scholarship and graduate recruitment scheme held at the Oil and Gas Discovery Centre yesterday

Careers and academic opportunities offered by Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP), Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd (BLNG) and Brunei Shell Tankers Sdn Bhd (BST) and Brunei Shell Marketing Company Sdn Bhd (BSM), were unveiled in a briefing for 67 career guidance and counselling teachers from secondary schools in Brunei Darussalam on Tuesday.

In line with the Bruneianisation policy, more Bruneians are encouraged to join BSP/BLNG/BST/BSM, a BSP press release said.

The function commenced with the recital of Al-Fatihah followed by opening remarks by Hjh Malai Nuridah Sh Mohammad, Head of Human Resources and Planning, BSP.

The briefing session continued with the processes and procedures involved in the BSP Scholarship Scheme and Graduate Recruitment Scheme by Awg Hj Mahmud Masron, Student Affairs Adviser and Awg Hj Ayub Hj Suhaili, Graduate Recruitment Adviser respectively.

They highlighted the preferred academic qualifications as endorsed by the Ministry of Education and the basic interpersonal competencies required. These include the ability to work as a team and good communication skills.

The teachers were also given an insight view on choosing a career with BSP by Hj Mohd Jamil Hj Md Salleh, BSP's Capability Coordinator for Engineering Skillpool.

This was followed by Career Opportunities in BLNG presented by its representative, Awg Ali Nordin Hj Md Diah, HR Adviser (Planning and Employee Relations).

Also covered in the programme was a briefing on the Assessment Centre by Dyg Zainab M.A. Omar, Head Strategic Planning and Citizen Management Development in BSP.

The assessments will test how a candidate solves problems, analyses data, evaluates priorities and to discover other aptitude skills vital in the companies' working environment that make up the capacity, achievement and relationships criteria.

The last presentation of the briefing was on Brunei Shell Tankers Marine Cadet scheme by Dyg Masyati Hj Md Salleh, HR Adviser.

She outlined the minimum qualification required to apply for the cadet scheme and the academic and career development opportunities in BST. The programme was wrapped up with a question and answer session. Brochures and posters were distributed to the teachers.
