No Passport Travel Talks Go Into
Pilot Mode
Bandar Seri
Begawan – Brunei citizens will soon be allowed to use the Smart
Identity Card (KPP) to travel to Sabah and Sarawak.
The new procedure is meant to
facilitate travel between Brunei and the two neighbouring countries.
The procedure is intended to
implement a pilot project for the Frequent Travellers Card (FTC)
between Brunei and Malaysia.
Under the new arrangement Brunei
citizens will use the smart card while the Malaysian citizens will use
their MyKad provided that travellers must bring along their passports.
The new regulation is expected to
commence by late April.
Awang
Sa Bali bin Abas, Director of Immigration and National Registration,
disclosed this during the Bilateral and Harmonisation Immigration
Management Meeting between Brunei Immigration Department and the
Malaysian Immigration Department yesterday.
He added that as a start it will be
implemented at the two Control Posts in Sungai Tujoh.
Awang
Sa Bali said that 1,000 people will be involved for the implementation
of FTC pilot project from each country.
They will be required to fill in the
forms and will undergo security vetting.
The project includes official visits,
business travel, commercial drivers and members of the public who have
recorded at least five entries and re-entries at the end of the month
prior to submitting the application.
