Man Jailed For Failing To Pay Drug Fine

Bandar Seri Begawan - Senior Magistrate Hj Abdullah Soefri sent a local man in his twenties yesterday to jail for four months for drug convictions last year and ordered him to undergo rehabilitation upon his release for consuming drugs. The defendant was given a grace period to pay the $2,300 fine.

Narcotics Prosecuting Officer, Pg Othman Pg Hj Ali, said that Ak Md Hussin Pg Khamis was first produced in court on November 20, 2003 where a fine of $2,300 in default four month’s jail, was imposed on him. He was convicted of consuming Methylamphetamine and possessing utensils intended for the consumption of drugs.

Ak Md Hussin was again produced in court yesterday for a hearing after a urine retest result, which showed him positive for Methylamphetamine.

The grace period given to pay the fine expired yesterday and the defendant was ordered to serve jail. He was also ordered undergo rehabilitation when he is released. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
