KB Records First Road Death In
2004

The Belait District police recorded the first road death for
this year in the district.
The Seria police reported that an
accident which occurred at the roundabout near Sekolah Rendah Muhammad
Alam last Sunday cost the life of a passenger.
The victim, identified as Seliman
Anak Senggen, 51, was reported to have succumbed to his injuries while
being rushed to the Suri Seri Begawan Hospital in Kuala Belait.
According to the police, the victim
who was the front passenger of a car driven by his wife was pronounced
dead upon arrival at the hospital. His wife was also reported to have
sustained serious injuries after being thrown in the collision. She is
under intensive care.
In the incident which occurred at
about 1.30 pm, the vehicle carrying the deceased was heading to Jalan
Raja Isteri in Seria town from Jalan Selatan Satu.
At the roundabout a pick up vehicle,
carrying two passengers from Jalan Lorong Tiga Barat heading towards
Lorong Tiga Seria wet market area failed to stop to give way to the
deceased’s vehicle, who had the right of way.
Three passengers from the pick up
vehicle including the driver were reported to have sustained minor
injuries. All the victims were rushed to the hospital with the
assistance of police and fire fighters. The vehicle was thrown into a
nearby ditch nearby as a result of the collision.
Following the incident, the police
reminded drivers and road users to understand the rules and
regulations at roundabouts, and to give way to other vehicles from the
right.
The police added that other road
regulations and rules should also be followed to prevent further car
mishaps particularly during the Chinese New Year, which is just round
the corner.
