Gambling, Booze And Immigration Suspects Detained

Bandar Seri Begawan - Berakas Police and the Customs and Excise Department conducted a joint operation on Monday night.

They targeted seven areas during the three-hour operation. DCO Berakas DSP Yakub led the operation which involved with 50 police and customs personnel. The areas under scrutiny were Berakas, Kg Terunjing, Sg Akar, Sg Tilong and Kg Manggis.

More than 50 foreign workers including an Indonesian and a Thai woman were detained for various offences, including inability to produce travel documents.

Also detained were two Thai men who were allegedly engaged in gambling activities. The police confiscated money and alleged gambling paraphernalia.

The customs meanwhile, confiscated suspected smuggled alcoholic drinks.

Those unable to produce any travel documents were brought to the Berakas Police Station for screening. Some were released the same night after their employees came with the appropriate documents.

Enforcement agencies across the district are continuing with their raids on some areas aimed at netting criminal elements.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
