Gambling, booze and immigration
suspects detained

Personnel from Berakas Police Station
and the Royal Customs and Excise Department conducted a joint
operation on Monday night.
Seven areas were targeted during the
3-hour operation led by DCO Berakas DSP Yakub and involved 50 police
and customs personnel. The areas under scrutiny were Berakas, Kg
Terunjing, Sg Akar, Sg Tilong and Kg Manggis.
More than 50 foreign workers
including an Indonesian and a Thai woman were detained for various
offences, including being unable to produce any travel documents.
Also detained were two Thai men who
were allegedly engaged in gambling activities. Money and alleged
gambling paraphernalia were confiscated by the police.
The customs personnel, meanwhile,
confiscated alcoholic drinks that were found to be undeclared goods.
Those unable to produce any travel
documents were brought to the Berakas Police Station for screening.
Some were released the same night after their employees came with the
appropriate documents.
