December Downpour Was The Highest In Brunei

Bandar Seri Begawan – Brunei is experiencing heavy rains because of the Northeast Monsoon which began in December and is expected to continue until March.

December recorded the third highest rainfall since 1966 with 661.6 millimetres of rain.

Normally rainfall during the monsoon increases gradually and peak by December or January.

Then by February the rainfall normally decreases and by March is the lowest with mean rainfall 114.2 millimetres.

Months of February and March are referred as the dry season for Brunei.

Therefore, occasional unsettled weather may still be expected during the first half of the northeast monsoon season but weather conditions may improve by February and because of the continuous rain, flooding takes place in many areas.

This is especially true in low-lying areas.

The public are reminded once again to take extra precaution as a result of the frequent downpour.

They should also take care especially driving on the slippery and wet roads. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
