Motorists seek diversion points
along highway
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
The development of the transport and
communication system and infrastructure in the form of a super double
carriageway or highway from Tutong all the way to Muara has been a
basic mechanism to facilitate the continuing welfare and well being of
the population as well as providing the opportunity for development
and growth of the economy.
Such development had also reduced
travellers' time and distance, and enable them to commute from one end
to another in just a few hours.
However, road users were hoping for
several breaks to be introduced along the highway to cater for
diversions in cases of heavy accidents or even natural calamities.
Ideally, they said such breaks can be
made at an interval of one mile so vehicles could be diverted to the
other carriageway.
"At present, the break or diversion
points were too far for comfort.
"Road users had no choice but to go
along with the heavy traffic in cases of accidents happening in
between the breaks," they said.
They suggested for the breaks to be
constructed from removable rail guards which could only be cleared by
authorised personnel.
The rail guards must be locked into
the road so they would not be removed by irresponsible people.
"But in cases of emergency,
authorised personnel can unlock the rail guards so traffic can be
diverted to the other carriageway to clear jams," they said.
