Food operators ask for new rubbish
collection point
By Rosli Abidin Yahya

The rubbish collection point at Tamu Selera is too close for comfort
to diners and operator alike
While appreciating the effort made by
the relevant agency in providing a rubbish collection point near the
open air eating place at Tamu Selera in the capital, stall operators
and visitors alike were hoping for minor changes with respect to the
location.
It was rather unfortunate that the
current location was too near for comfort to the stalls, only beside
the first eating place.
Being a rubbish collection point, at
times the bad smell reached the stalls and diners causing some of them
to stop eating. Operators also threw their leftover food at the
rubbish collection point and this made the collection point smellier.
Operators are hoping that the
Municipal Board would move the collection point to another convenient
place, several metres away.
"We promise to throw our rubbish at
the new location. We know the department may have learnt from past
experience that the further away the rubbish collection point, the
lazier the operators become.
"Other people might just dispose of
their rubbish wherever they please but we promise not to do that,"
said the operators.
They added that there is a walkway to
the stalls beside the collection point but it is understandably never
used by diners.
"Everyone knows that a rubbish
collection point is always smelly and dirty, therefore they avoid
going to the stalls via the walkway," they said.
While waiting for the relocation of
the collecting point, they hope that the rubbish will be collected on
a daily basis.
"The collection point is frequented
by rats in search of thrown foods," they added.
