Drug Offenders In Seria Below 15 Years Old

Seria – Nine drug offenders below the age of 15 were arrested in this district last year, and 19 more were between the ages of 16 and 20 years old.

Statistics from the Narcotics Control Bureau showed that of the total, only one arrest was a Chinese. The rest of the offenders were Malays.

This apprehension of drug abusers who were all students prompted the Ministry of Education and the Career Guidance Section to launch an ongoing education programme on the misuse of drugs.

The program was an effort to curb this social ills in Brunei.

The forum included an exhibition and demonstration of caning for drugs offences which was held for the benefit of students of the Chung Ching Secondary School in Seria yesterday.

Entitled "Remaja Waja, Negara Sejahra", the forum involved the Narcotics Control Bureau, the Royal Brunei Police, the Ministry of Health and the Prisons Department.

Amongst the issues discussed were the effects of drugs on health, including the dangers of smoking and causes that lead to drug abuse.

The exhibition featured the negative effects of drugs abuse.
