MTSSR launches business project

Second year students of the National
Diploma Programme of Business and Management Department, Sultan Saiful
Rizal Technical College put theory into practise when they launched
their business project yesterday.
The project, a unit of the course
undertaken, took form in an entrepreneurial setting where the students
set up stalls selling variety of products and services, such as food
items, mobile phone ring tones and car wash services.
The stalls are open to public every
Wednesday from 9am to 4.30pm at the parking lot of the Business and
Management Department, Sultan Saiful Rizal Technical College in
Gadong.
This practical aspect of the course
is an application of the theoretical unit they undertook during the
first year of the course where they were required to draw up and
submit a business and action pans. A group presentation will be
conducted by these students in September.
The project, which involves five
groups of Business & Finance students and three groups from
Secretarial Studies, runs from January to October this year and the
assessment will be made throughout the period.
The assessment will be based on five
common skills: Developing Personal Performance; Working with Others;
Communicating; Managing Tasks & Problems; and Applying Numeracy,
Design and Information Technology Skills.
A welcoming speech was presented by
Head of Department DK Susilawati bte Pg Hj Damit.
Present as the guest of honour was Pg
DR Hj Amir Md Yussof Mohd Pg Hj Abbas who officiated the launching of
the business project.
During his speech, the guest of
honour said, "The Brunei Malay community should strive for business
management knowledge in order to compete with other ethnic communities
in this country. This is inline with His Majesty's Titah - Malays are
urged to become leaders in the business industry."
He added that he saw great potential
in the college as an educational centre in management, business and
trade to guide and produce young entrepreneurs who are educated and
gifted.
The event also saw a certificate
presentation for Business and Management Department's indoor games
tournament held in 2003.
