Wallet left in car snatched in
minutes
By Liza Mohd
Members of the public are constantly
being cautioned about leaving valuable items inside the car, after
previous occurrences of thieves breaking inside the car and scouring
for items to steal.
A woman in her 30's felt the pinch
when she found that her wallet containing B$800 in cash, and ATM and
credit cards that she had left inside her car had disappeared in a
matter of minutes.
The woman stated that she had parked
her car within the Gadong area as she made her way to a nearby toilet.
In a hurry, she left her wallet in the car thinking that she would be
back soon.
When she came back, however, she was
in a total of shock to discover that her car was broken into and her
wallet was missing. The incident occured in broad daylight.
She noted that she had left her car
window on the passenger side slightly ajar, and acknowledged that that
could have been the point of entry for the culprits.
Without further delay, she then
called the banks to prevent illegal transactions on her ATM and credit
cards and proceeded to report the matter to the police.
The victim stated that she had
regretted leaving her wallet behind as the cash was meant for
purchasing textbooks and school items for her niece and nephew.
Similar incidents have also occurred
mainly when people left their valuables inside the car to go for
prayers. The mosque parking lot has become the prime target for
thieves as they know that most people would not carry heavy items such
as mobile phones or wallets with them while going for prayers.
Therefore the public should be more
aware and not attempt to leave items visible inside the car. Not only
would it cause a major loss of cash or important documents, but it
would also cause damage on the car as the thieves make an attempt to
break into the car.
