By Malai FadleyRizal

A Malaysian man and a foreigner were taken into custody at the Central Police Station in the capital following a three-day remand application granted by Senior Magistrate Hj Abdullah Soefri when the alleged 'housebreakers' were brought before the Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Prosecuting Officer Nor Hafizah Ahmad asked for Remy Mohd Ismail and Julaihi Bujang/Ajang to be brought to court on January 20 pending further police investigations into the case.

No pleas were taken yesterday.

The two men are charged with housebreaking, entering Wecan Restaurant in Jalan Gadong between October 27 and 28, 2003.

This offence, under section 457 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of no more than five years and whipping. If the offence intended to be committed were theft, the term of imprisonment may be extended to 15 years, the charge stated.
