Woman fined $4,000 for employing illegal workers

A 56-year-old canteen manageress was fined $4,000, or sentenced to 4 months jail term in default, by the Magistrate's Court yesterday after she pleaded guilty to employing eight immigration offenders.

Kok Moi, a Malaysian citizen who had been in this country for 27 years, admitted to employing six Malaysians who were holding a social visit pass and another two who had an employment pass but was not under her sponsorship.

According to the Immigration Prosecutor Moharefandi Hj Md Tahir, the foreigners were arrested in the canteen where they had been working since September 2003.
