To The Holy Land
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - As Pilgrims from all over the world converged to the
Holy Land for this Haj season, keep in mind the 906 locals who have
been waiting to perform the Umrah since August 2002.
Recalling the number of times they
had been promised by the concerned travel agency for their problems to
be settled, spokesperson Hj Ali Sapian Awg Tengah said yesterday that
they are now hoping to make the trip by April.
"We have no way to communicate with
the (aforementioned) company as its offices at Mile One in Jalan
Tutong closed a long time ago.
"All we hope is that the
investigation by Jabatan Urusan Haji at Ministry of Religious Affairs
and the Commercial Crime Unit of Royal Brunei Police will conclude
soon.
"As such, we may get journey back or
the timely departure to the Holy Land in the next Umrah season," he
said.
They paid more than B$1.2 million for
the flights from $999 to a maximum of $1238 per person.
This case is currently being
investigated by the concerned authorities.
