By Lyna Mohammad

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Minister of Communication, Pehin Dato Awg Zakaria yesterday officiated at the official announcement of the appointment of DAHA Trading Sdn Bhd as the sole distributor for the Chevrolet range of motor vehicles for the Sultanate.

The ceremony also coincided with the unveiling and launch of Chevrolet models in the country.

The appointment made by General Motors Overseas Distribution Corporation (ODC), a member of General Motors Corporation, the world's largest vehicle manufacturer and global automotive sales leader since 1931, shows its confidence in DAHA Trading, who is a member of the established Goh Hock Kee (GHK) Group of Companies, having thirty years' experience in the local motor industry.

Also present at the ceremony were Mr Ali Aydin Pandir and Mr C S Cheong, Managing Director and Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing Director of General Motors ODC Singapore respectively, as well as several senior government officers.

Expressing his gratefulness on being given the confidence and trust that GM had placed in DAHA Trading, Pg Dato Sharifuddin, the Chairman of GHK Motors also highlighted a report by the Asean Economic Working Committee last year which stated that despite its relatively small population, Brunei has been ranked number 3 in the world in terms of the ratio between human population and vehicle population, thus showing that the Sultanate has very strong purchasing power.

Mr Ali Aydin Pandir meanwhile noted that GM Corporation has been expanding its presence by investing in engineering centres and manufacturing plants mainly in Australia, China, Japan, Korea, and Thailand as well as in its distribution network to offer its products to Asian consumers, as the Asia-Pacific region particularly is the largest growing market in the automotive industry.

He further stated that besides offering a wide range of vehicles which are dependable, reliable, well-designed, fun to drive and affordable, the Chevrolet brand also offers full after-sales support and GM's commitment to quality, as to make the ownership a memorable one.

According to the MD, more models are to be distributed here in addition to the current line of the three Chevy models comprising the Optra 1.6 sedan and the Aveo 1.5 sedan and hatchback (both in auto and manual versions), as well as the Vivant MPV 1.6 manual, which was unveiled and launched yesterday at the GHK Motor Showroom in Beribi Light industrial Estate, in Gadong. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
