Belait Scores Best In PSR
Kuala Belait –
Belait District scored the best results in the Primary School
Assessment Examination (PSR) among the four districts last year.
The district's passing percentage
increased from 87.37 per cent in 2002 to 92.34 per cent last year
prompting its officials to mark the achievement with a thanksgiving
ceremony on Thursday afternoon at the Sayidina Ali Secondary School.
Out of 640 students who sat for the
exam, only 48 candidates or seven per cent failed.
In the district alone, eight schools
achieved 100 per cent passing rates compared to five schools in the
previous year.
A total of 91 students last year
obtained five As and four As compared to 63 in the previous year.
In terms of subjects, there was an
increase of 96.7 per cent in Mathematics compared with 91.53 per cent
last year.
Dayang
Khairunissa, 12, was among the pupils who obtained five As in last
year's PSR.
She wished to become a doctor and
attributed her success to doing her homework diligently and asking
whenever she had a problem with her school work.
Similar techniques were being
practised by Awang Mohammad Izwan who wanted to be a science teacher
with the five per cent increase in the passing rate.
Belait District is the first district
to achieve more than 90 per cent passing percentage.
The achievement was due to the
efforts made by the Belait District Schools Department together with
the principals and teachers as well the students themselves. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
