RBAF holds sports award ceremony

Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF)
yesterday afternoon held a "Ramah Mesra Penghargaan Sukan" ceremony at
the Season's restaurant, Centrepoint in Gadong.
Present as the guest of honour was
the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, YDM Pehin Datu
Lailaraja Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi, who also
delivered the speech.
The ceremony started with the
recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, led by Ustaz Roslan bin Hj Sulaiman,
Acting Senior Religious Officer in the Ministry, followed by an
opening speech delivered by the Chairman of RBAF Sports Council, Lt
Colonel (U) Hamid bin Hj Nayan.
In his speech, the chairman stressed
the importance of sports management to determine individual progress.
"In this respect, officers and units
are thus directing the sports management of RBAF, which have since
1993 shown positive results. The RBAF has also managed to organise 11
general official sports events, offering around 110 events throughout
the year."
Meanwhile, the guest of honour,
during his speech, congratulated all RBAF personnel who had excelled
in sporting events, both on national and international levels.
He said individuals, in the process
of becoming an army, should not halt their progress in sports, as they
are vital assets to military training.
Men's Athlete of the Year Award 2003
went to 13297 Corporal Fadilah bin Sanip for his achievement in karate
during the Vietnam Sea Games in 2003, where he won a silver medal.
21313 Lance Corporal Dk Rosmahwati
binti Pg Hj Badaruddin received the Women's Athlete of the Year Award
2003 for winning gold medal in Silat during Vietnam Sea Games in 2003.
Fifty other RBAF personnel also
received awards in various sports categories.
